Hospeace House welcomes Executive Director, Jennifer Emmons, RN

Article written by Julie Sherwood ~ Daily Messenger

The newly formed comfort care home plans to open by the end of the year Jennifer Emmons, a registered nurse experienced in hospice care, took the helm of the newly formed comfort care home opening at Hospeace House.

“I am so blessed to have this opportunity,” said Emmons, a Naples native familiar with Hospeace House, which operated for more than a decade as a four-bed, state-certified hospice. Hospeace is scheduled to reopen later this year after a year of building renovations and restructuring as a two-bed comfort care home — a model that will provide the same end-of-life care but under fewer constraints that made the state-certified hospice hard to sustain.

Emmons said she is excited to be heading the new venture, with much of her job involving recruitment and training of volunteers. She plans to emphasize the variety of ways people can help — direct patient care is only one of those contributions, she said. She plans to work with schools and community groups to recruit more young people and others who might not otherwise think they have anything to offer. Emmons mentioned shopping, preparing meals and other household duties, as well as offering companionship for residents and family members.

The Hospeace House will need between 100 and 150 trained volunteers, as they will provide care 24/7. The home will have two or three paid employees, including Emmons, with volunteers key to maintaining the home. If you are interested in volunteering contact Jennifer at [email protected].

Emmons has worked in both hospice and home care. She comes from Heritage Christian Services, where she was a clinical nurse specialist. She was also a case manager for Lifetime Care serving patients in Ontario County. A resident of County Road 34 in South Bristol, Emmons lives just a few miles from Hospeace House .
